The Godfather® II Producer Dave Woldman introduces Mobface!

It’s vanity I think; either that or some form of OCD. Not only do I love playing around with these virtual people creators, but I have had the pleasure of actually producing these game features for several projects over the years, The Godfather 2 included.

I don’t belong in the Godfather universe. I don’t look the part; I’m not that intense a guy to be honest. But I do want to see what I would look like running around that world, wearing those clothes, interacting with the characters I’ve come to know and filling them with bullet holes! It’s my own personal daily catharsis. Mobface in GF2 will give me the chance to create a pretty good representation of myself. It will satisfy my inner child urge to see myself in game and play a little dress up.

The challenge in making a feature like Mobface for a game like The Godfather 2 comes down to how much control you want to give the player. The Godfather films and now the games have created a realistic believable world from top to bottom. Everything looks the part, and because of this, the characters are believable and the story feels real. But reality isn’t always fun, you know?

Now as I get bored pretty easily and tire of myself I often go a little crazy with my digital persona. Sometimes I feel like turning into a 7 foot, 300 pound behemoth with a giant orange afro and matching jumpsuit. In some games, when the urge would hit me, bring on the Giant Orange Freak! But would that work in the Godfather universe… I don’t think so. There is a limit to what makes sense for this game. As much as I would love to be the Giant Orange Freak, I don’t think Don Corleone would approve.

Fortunately, there is still a huge variety of options and fun to be had in the feature and I’m sure you all will have endless joy seeing what you can create. Though if you’re anything like me, about half way into the game it gets really hard to resist hitting that “Randomize” button to see what the Video Game Gods think you ought to look like!
